The Soldier

Forget not,
the child born to mother, fed, clothed, and loved.
Forget not,
the boy who always played, laughed, learned, loved and cried.
Forget not,
the young man who went to school,
then was sent to take another life or maybe die.
Forget not,
the honorable man's soul who stood before gunfire, bombs, and blood,
only to find himself forgotten, alone and starved.
Forget not,
that broken spirit who returned home to unhappiness and
although in his misery, tried to forget, forgive, and thrive.
Forget not,
this hero's fractured family, his broken home, and love lost.
Forget not,
those victorious old men who bear the agony of good memory,
yet can say with dignity that they survived.
Forget not,
the lesson of freedom and always, always,
always, remember the Soldier!
